QPR suffer thumping home defeat against Preston

QPR 1 Preston 4

QPR produced one of their poorest performances of the season as they suffered a heavy defeat at Loftus Road.

An appalling error by Josh Scowen led to Jayden Stockley giving Preston a first-half lead.

Jordan Storey and Alan Browne added second-half goals for the visitors before Matt Smith pulled a goal back with a late header after Jake Bidwell had launched the ball into the box.

But there was still time for Preston to add a fourth, scored by Brad Potts.

Preston were gifted the lead when Scowen was robbed by Browne near the edge of his own penalty area and Stockley steered the loose ball beyond keeper Joe Lumley.

After target man Smith was sent on as a half-time substitute, Rangers rallied and almost equalised when Darnell Furlong headed against the bar.

But their shortcomings at the back continued to be exposed, with all three of Preston’s second-half goals the result of shoddy defending.

Storey volleyed in unmarked at the far post, Browne was able to head in from a corner, and Potts had time to pick his spot after Lumley had pushed out a shot from Lukas Nmecha.
