Resolving Austin's future 'a big moment for QPR'

Kevin Gallen believes keeping Charlie Austin remains vital to QPR’s chances of challenging for promotion next season.

Austin has scored seven goals since arriving on loan from West Brom in January for a second spell with the R’s.

Lyndon Dykes has since hit form, scoring six goals in his past seven appearances - suggesting he could be one to watch next season.

But former QPR forward Gallen still thinks Austin would make a big contribution were he to stay.

Gallen said: “I think it’s important if they want to have ambitions to get promoted, because there’s no doubt Charlie Austin in the Championship and at QPR is a quality striker.

“He will get you goals, which he has proven since he came in January.

“It’s quite a big moment for QPR. Are they going to back the manager and really go for it?

“It’s a big summer for QPR. Are the board going to say ‘We’re going to have a right go this season’?

“Mark Warburton will be saying ‘Look what I’ve done when you give me quality players’.”

Gallen was joined by West London Sport’s Dan Bennett, Ian McCullough and Ben Kosky.

They also discussed Saturday’s win at Stoke, Dykes’ recent impact and gave their predictions for this weekend’s game against Luton.
