Cousins rues QPR’s run of bad luck

Jordan Cousins says QPR can take heart from recent performances despite their losing run continuing.

Jake Livermore’s injury-time goal for West Brom condemned struggling Rangers to a sixth consecutive league defeat.

It came after the injury-time penalty save which denied them a point against Birmingham and a controversial last-gasp penalty which resulted in a defeat at Bristol City.

“It’s pretty tough – hard to take. We worked so hard throughout the game and to get nothing out of it is disappointing,” Cousins said.

“We had opportunities and I thought we showed great character to come back into the game. It’s very disappointing to take nothing from it.

“We worked tirelessly throughout the game and we’re just not getting the luck at the moment.

“There are positives to take. We’re playing well and showing great character to get back into games, we’re just not getting the rub of the green at the moment.

“We’re quite a together group. We’ll work hard and go again.”

QPR injury concern

Rangers face a trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday and are likely to be without Luke Freeman.

They were down to 10 men when Livermore scored, with Freeman having gone off injured after Steve McClaren had made all three substitutions.

“He’s got a hip flexor (problem) and it’s hopefully not too bad,” Rangers manager McClaren explained.

“It will be tough to recover him in three days but it’s hopefully not too serious.”

Hall’s ‘niggle’

Grant Hall was rested for the game but is expected to return for the Boro match.

The defender had played four games in a row, making a sudden and emphatic return to action after a long-term knee problem.

McClaren said: “He had a little niggle. He’s played four games in 10 days – an unbelievable comeback when he hasn’t played for a year.

“His level of performance was magnificent and I wanted to play him again but it was too much of a risk.

“Hopefully, leaving him out, he’ll now be fit for Saturday.”
