QPR captain dismisses Redknapp rumours

QPR captain Clint Hill has dismissed speculation about boss Harry Redknapp’s future as “weird” and “ridiculous”.

Redknapp was reported to be close to the sack after Rangers’ defeat at Charlton on Saturday – their third consecutive loss.

Hill said: “It’s a bit weird really. It seems to be that when you’re a manager and you get two or three defeats then automatically you’re [rumoured to be] going to get the sack.

“That just seems to be the ridiculous nature of the sport at the moment, where a person has a little bit of failure – three games – and everybody wants to jump on their back and get rid of them.

Redknapp is under pressure after recent results.

“The club have said they’ve got a long-term plan. It’s not a given that if you change a manager then results will improve.”

Charlton’s last-gasp winner followed Rangers’ defeats against promotion rivals Derby and Reading.

Redknapp’s side are now seven points adrift of second-placed Burnley and desperately need a victory at home to Leeds this weekend.

“It’s been very difficult and frustrating,” Hill admitted.

“We haven’t played to the standard we set ourselves, both individually and as a team.

“There have been individual errors as well – I held my hand up for the second goal against Reading – and that seems to be creeping in to our game at the moment.

“No team goes through the season without making mistakes, but unfortunately we seem to be making them at the run-in stage.

“We need to work hard on the training ground and correct things on Saturday.”

  • There's something very very wrong when a team in the top 6 gets no shots on target in 90 minutes against Charlton.
Forget the results, the way we lose is pathetic and the way we win isn't much better.
I watch all our games on cable and sometimes switch to EPL stuff for a glimpse at the other planet and wonder way I click back again. Must be an ardent fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
