Dunne given thumbs-up after reading riot act to QPR team-mate

Harry Redknapp says he had no problem with a heated exchange between defenders Richard Dunne and Benoit Assou-Ekotto during QPR’s recent 3-1 defeat against Reading.

Dunne made his anger towards the left-back clear after Assou-Ekotto stood off Garath McCleary in the build-up to Reading’s third goal.

But Rangers boss Redknapp said: “It happens during games. You don’t just all walk away when you concede a goal and go ‘Well never mind chaps, don’t worry about it’.

Assou-Ekotto was blamed for Reading’s third goal.

“You want to see people telling people and want to see people are hurt by conceding a goal. That’s part of football.

“That’s what the good teams over the years have always done. They don’t just accept the goal going in.

“Someone wants to know what happened and that’s what Richard Dunne did – he wasn’t happy with it.”

Assou-Ekotto was subsequently dropped for last weekend’s defeat at Charlton.

“I made a change and that’s you do when you don’t win football matches,” Redknapp added.
