Appleton takes West Bromwich Albion job

Michael Appleton has taken on a coaching role at West Brom for the remainder of the season.

Appleton has been among the contenders for the QPR manager’s job.

But with Rangers delaying an appointment, he has returned to The Hawthorns to assist Albion’s caretaker boss Jimmy Shan on a short-term basis.

Appleton, who has managed Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn and Oxford United, was previously a player and a coach at Albion.

He was assistant manager at Leicester City before leaving the club last year.
