George Groves retained his world super-middleweight title with a fourth-round knockout of Jamie Cox at Wembley Arena.

Hammersmith’s Groves, making the first defence of his WBA belt, saw off his opponent with a thumping body shot to set up a World Boxing Super Series semi-final showdown with Chris Eubank Jr.

Underdog Cox, from Swindon, took the fight to the champion and both men landed with heavy shots during a thrilling opening three rounds.

But Groves’ superiority told and Cox was already beginning to slow when a right hook to the body sent him to knees and he was unable to make the beat the count.

“It was a crippling shot and I knew he would not get up,” Groves declared.

“Don’t give me a chance to make a shot to the body – you won’t get up.”
