Seven in a row for champion Ouseph

Hounslow’s Rajiv Ouseph underlined his status as the country’s top men’s singles player by retaining his title at the English National Badminton Championships.

The number one seed beat Sam Parsons of Coventry 21-9 21-8 in a one-sided final in Milton Keynes to extend his record-breaking sequence of consecutive national titles to seven.

Ouseph, who represented Great Britain at London 2012, is now targeting a place at the 2016 Games.

He said: “I am 27 now and I would like to carry on to the Rio Olympics which would mean I could get to nine [national titles]. But I’ll just take it a year at a time.”
