Middlesex suffer washout at bleak Hove

Close, day two: Middlesex 105 lead Sussex 86-3 by 19 runs
Sussex 3pts, Middlesex 1pt

No play was possible on day two of Middlesex’s County Championship opener at Hove because of persistent rain.

The bad weather overnight continued into the morning, soaking the outfield and forcing the covers to remain on.

Heavier rain at lunchtime and a poor forecast forced the umpires to call it a day around 1.40pm.

Sussex are 86-3 in their first innings, 19 runs ahead having bowled Middlesex out for 105 on Sunday.

They will hope to bat under clearer skies on Tuesday, with the outlook on the south coast looking brighter for the final two days.
