Symons gets job as full-time Fulham boss

Kit Symons has been confirmed as Fulham’s permanent manager until the end of next season.

The former Whites defender had been in caretaker charge since Felix Magath’s departure last month and has overseen five wins from his nine games at the helm.

A six-man panel, headed by chairman Shahid Khan and including former Fulham players Brian McBride and Danny Murphy, reviewed the candidates for the job but Symons’ performance earned him the nod, signing a deal until summer 2016.

Khan said: “Kit has thoroughly earned the opportunity to take Fulham from here as our first-Team manager.

“We’ve been a different football club, on and off the pitch, since Kit stepped in as our caretaker manager in September.

“His passion for Fulham is evident and contagious, and I believe the promise ahead of him is extremely bright.

“Above all, Kit understands and is committed to our goals, and he knows there is much work ahead.”

Symons previously managed the under-21 team at Fulham, having spent three seasons as a player at Craven Cottage from 1998 to 2001.

Speaking after last Friday night’s 3-0 win over Charlton, he said he was “very confident” of being given the job full-time.

Symons’ first game as the club’s permanent manager is at Uwe Rosler’s Wigan Athletic on Saturday, followed by a home game next Wednesday against Blackpool.
