Aboubakar Kamara’s first league goal of the season was only good enough for a point as Fulham remained bottom of the table.

The winger struck three minutes before the break, taking advantage of an unorthodox back-heel flick from Aleksandar Mitrovic to race to the byline, check back after wrong-footing Caglar Soyuncu, and drill past Kaspar Schmeichel.

But after looking comfortable and on course for a first clean sheet of the season, Fulham were pegged back on 74 minutes, when substitute Shinji Okazaki got in behind their defence on the right and rolled the ball back for James Maddison to convert.

Whites boss Claudio Ranieri was hoping for a win against the club he guided to an amazing title win but his new team were unable to strike back.

They were indebted to Sergio Rico for avoiding a third-minute setback. As Kelechi Iheanacho bore down on him, outpacing Denis Odoi after a defence-splitting pass from Maddison, the keeper stayed tall before thrusting up an arm to deflect a goal-bound shot.

Calum Chambers almost gave Fulham the lead on 21 minutes, getting on the end of a nod down from Odoi to clip in an angled shot which Schmeichel had to turn away at full stretch.

Wes Morgan twice went close with headers for the Foxes, Rico getting down well to save at his near post for the second, while Mitrovic nodded a corner just wide and Luciano Vietto, with flailing defenders strewn around him, had a shot blocked by Ben Chilwell.

Tom Cairney replaced Vietto at half-time and came within a whisker of making it 2-0 on 70 minutes with a curler from just outside the box which was inches wide.

The Foxes drew level soon after, and Demarai Gray forced another late save from Rico, but Fulham finished on top, with Mitrovic’s deflected low effort almost finding the net, and Odoi clipping over from close range.

Fulham: Rico; Christie (Ream 84), Odoi, Mawson, Le Marchand (Bryan 77); Chambers, Seri; Kamara, Vietto (Cairney h/t), Sessegnon; Mitrovic. Subs not used: Bettinelli, Kebano, Schurrle, Zambo Anguissa.
