Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic said his side will take time to be competitive in the Premier League following back-to-back losses on their return to the top flight.

The Whites lost 3-1 at Wembley to an impressive Tottenham side, which was virtually unchanged from last season, while much of the visiting side playing only their second match together.

Jokanovic handed debuts to deadline-day signings André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Timothy Fosu-Mensah despite the pair’s lack of time in training – something which the manager conceded as having an impact on the team.

“We are a two-and-a-half-week-old team,” he said. “They [Spurs] have played for three years together. Without any doubt, we must adapt ourselves to this new situation.

“We created enough chances to score some goals, but they created more especially in the last fifteen minutes. We didn’t find the energy to finish the game off. You need experience, quality and synchronisation between the players to find that balance.”
