Fulham beaten by Wednesday at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday 3 Fulham 2

Fulham were unable to salvage a point despite a second-half rally at Hillsborough.

Jamie O’Hara equalised for them after Fernando Forestieri had put Sheffield Wednesday ahead on his home debut for the Yorkshire club.

And after goals from Tom Lees and Michael Turner put Wednesday 3-1 up, Tom Cairney responded for the Whites with a diving header.

Fulham battled well but were undone by Ross Wallace’s left-footed deliveries.

His 12th-minute corner was headed in by Forestieri at the far post and after O’Hara’s deflected shot hauled Fulham level, Wallace crossed for Lees to head home eight minutes before the break.

Worse followed for Kit Symons’ side five minutes into the second half when Wallace set up another goal, this time crossing for Turner to head past keeper Andy Lonergan, who had produced a superb save early on to deny Barry Bannan.

Fulham’s second goal was well worked, O’Hara crossing for Cairney to net his third goal since joining the Whites during the summer.

Dan Burn had a late effort saved by Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood as Fulham attempted to rescue a point.
