QPR linked with Cardiff striker

QPR are battling with Nottingham Forest and Wigan for the signing of Cardiff City striker Nicky Maynard, according to Talksport.

It is claimed that all three clubs are keen on the 27-year-old, who has been tipped to move on loan.

Meanwhile, Richie Wellens turned down a move to QPR before signing a new contract at Doncaster, the Yorkshire Post says.

Having impressed for Rovers against Harry Redknapp’s side, and with his short-term deal about to expire, the 33-year-old midfielder was reported to be ready to move to Loftus Road.

He subsequently signed an 18-month contract at Doncaster and it is claimed he rejected six-month deal offered by Rangers.

“I had one definite other option. But I wanted an 18-month contract,” Wellens told the Post.

“When you get to 33, people are more bothered about how old you are than what you do on the pitch.

“You speak to a lot of managers and they say: ‘If you were 28, we’d sign you’.”
