Derby are favourites but can they handle the occasion? We fancy QPR

QPR are marginal underdogs for Saturday’s Championship play-off final against Derby County at Wembley, where a place in the Premier League will be at stake.

Rangers are 11/10 at BetVictor to win the big game, with Steve McClaren’s Rams side 8/11.

Both sides won their respective home fixture in the regular season and there looks to be very little between them.

Derby are 7/5 to win in 90 minutes with Rangers 23/10 and it is 9/4 for the game to go into extra time.

We are asking punters how the play-offs will be won, and bet:

QPR in 90 minutes: 23/10
Derby in 90 minutes: 7/5
QPR after extra time: 9/1
Derby after extra time: 8/1
QPR on penalties: 11/1
Derby on penalties: 11/1

We at BetVictor are refunding losing selected bets as a free bet if the game goes to a penalty shoot-out and that looks a decent insurance given it is so hard to split the teams.

Charlie Austin’s two goals were enough to see Harry Redknapp’s men through to Wembley against a resilient Wigan and the striker is 17/4 to score the opening goal, 6/4 to find the back of the net at any time during the 90 minutes, and 9/1 to be named man of the match.

The punters don’t seem to expect to see many goals and we bet 13/10 there are three or more goals in the game.

Derby are a young team and you just wonder if they will freeze on the big stage.

I was taken with Joey Barton’s second-half performance against Wigan but he remains a volatile character and the 14/1 on offer for him to be the first player to be shown a yellow card looks too big.

It promises to a wonderful occasion and for one set of supporters it will be heartache.

Rangers legend Rodney Marsh compared the game to the 1967 League Cup final in importance earlier in the week. I disagree as I think this is more important.

The recommendation is the Rangers win at 11/10. It might not be pretty, is sure to be tense and exciting, but for me it’s QPR who’ll be playing Premier League football next season.

Enjoy it!

  • I see it 3-1 as well Tim, but for Derby
youth and exuberance to come out on top here!!

  • So hope you are right Charlie!!! Heart and head say we can win in normal time but if we in to extra time I am not so confident. Youthful legs of derby could win out over a aging defence of hill and Dunne although I would not expect them both to play beyond normal time if that was the case. Please God we are on our game and can close it out before that! U R'ssss!

  • Well lets hope do charlie

after All as the saying goes
