Dagenham v Bees player ratings

Brentford went through to the second round of the Capital One Cup by beating Dagenham & Redbridge on penalties after an extraordinary match ended 6-6 after extra time. Here’s how we rated the Bees players on an amazing night in east London.

Richard Lee: 7
Had a mixed game. His two superb saves won it for Brentford in the shoot-out but a couple of errors yielded two Daggers equalisers, one of which he should have dealt with from distance.

Nico Yennaris: 6
Was forced off after 21 minutes with a back problem suffered from a heavy collision and replaced by Jake Bidwell.

Harlee Dean: 6
Scored an important goal to make it 6-6 and force penalties but was part of the defensive unit that marked poorly at times and allowed the hosts a route back into the game on more than one occasion.

Tony Craig: 5
Has also had better games. Craig is supposed to be the leader at the back but he will be disappointed he was unable to prevent six goals flying in.

Jake Bidwell: 5
The left-back was his usual dependable self on the ball but off it he was part of the defensive group that was pulled out of shape and looked in disarray at times.

Kevin O’Connor: 5
The club captain was asked to do a job at left-back and looked uncomfortable there until Bidwell came on and he shifted to the right. But he struggled with the pace and trickery of Daggers winger Ashley Hemmings.

Marcos Tebar: 5
Sound on the ball but his positioning was poor and sometimes allowed Dagenham to put pressure on the Bees back four.

Toumani Diagouraga: 6
A player who has been on the periphery of the first team, he showed at times why he is an excellent squad player to have and someone who can do a good – if not predictable – job in the middle of the park.

Stuart Dallas: 8
Brentford’s best player. Dallas was a menace on the right wing and deserved his two early goals. He continued to be a constant threat throughout.

Tommy Smith: 7
The 34-year-old forward’s class is evident every time he gets the ball but he was forced off with an injury and his fitness is something Brentford have to monitor closely this season.

Alan Judge: 6
Was his usual dangerous self when he came on in the second half and set up Andre Gray for his goal with a superb low cross.

Montell Moore: 7
The 18-year-old academy star had an excellent debut and will push for a first-team place this season if he continues with the confidence and skill he showed in this game.

Nick Proschwitz: 6
His lack of first-team football over the past year is evident. He worked hard to find his touch and sharpness in this game but it didn’t come and he was replaced by Gray in the second half.

Andre Gray: 7
Looked lively up front and thought he had won the game with his first goal for the club on 83 minutes, poking in Judge’s excellent cross.

Man of the match: Dallas
