Lampard tipped to take over at Chelsea

The stories in Saturday’s newspapers involving Chelsea….

Frank Lampard continues to be linked with the manager’s job at Chelsea.

With Maurizio Sarri set to join Juventus, Blues legend Lampard is being tipped to return to Stamford Bridge after a year in charge at Derby County.

The Guardian say Chelsea plan to make a formal approach to Derby for Lampard after making him the club’s first choice to replace Sarri.

The Sun say last-ditch attempts to keep Sarri have failed and the newspaper declare that the Italian wants to leave because he felt “violated” by abuse from fans during a poor spell for Chelsea last season.

The Sun also say Lampard will be joined by another former Chelsea man, Jody Morris, who is his assistant at Derby, and wants to bring in Blues legend Didier Drogba but not John Terry.

Gianfranco Zola’s position is unclear – the Times reported on Friday that the current assistant boss fears for his future at the club, while The Sun say he will not accept a demotion in the new set-up.

Meanwhile, Willian is set to sign a new two-year contract at Chelsea, also according to The Sun.
