Mourinho: I’m unhappy with my strikers

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho admitted his decision not to start with a recognised striker against Paris St-Germain underlined the fact that he is unhappy with his current options up front.

In an apparent snubbing of Fernando Torres, Mourinho started with the Spaniard on the bench for the Blues’ 3-1 defeat in the Champions League quarter-final first leg in Paris, which Samuel Eto’o missed because of a hamstring problem.

Andre Schurrle was deployed as the frontman and Mourinho explained: “I am not happy with my strikers’ performances so I have to try things.

Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat in Paris.

“With Andre at least I know we have one more player to have the ball and to associate with the other players.

“He can associate and the team can have control of possession like we had.

“But football is not just about that. It’s also about scoring goals, getting in behind and having real strikers.”

Chelsea will need a strong attacking display in the second leg at Stamford Bridge, where they must score twice to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals.

“We are not out. We will try to turn it around,” Mourinho said.

“We have nothing to lose. We have to play thinking that it’s possible. To be fair I don’t think Paris think it’s done.”

  • I think chelsea will progress if Etoo regain his fitness he can score a hat trick. He did it with Inter. He has gained his form and he is still a world class striker. Even Mou knows Sam has been a success so far. He had to adapt to the physicality of premier league and has finally done that. It is a shame Etoo could not play in Paris for he would have put on a show. He love paris and could have created psg big problem. Samu is a believer and if he is fit,his talent and experience will help chelsea. When he plays, His present and hunger raises Chelsea's game .
