Troubled Chelsea are outclassed by City

Manchester City 1 Chelsea 0

Bernardo Silva’s goal 35 seconds into the second half condemned troubled Chelsea to another defeat.

After Andreas Christensen gave the ball away near the edge of the penalty area, David Silva crossed from the left and Marcos Alonso hesitated, enabling Bernado Silva to sneak in behind him and nudge the ball past an off-balance Thibaut Courtois.

It meant a fourth consecutive away loss for Chelsea, who remain fifth in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Runaway leaders Manchester City totally dominated possession and would have led at half-time but for Cesar Azpilicueta’s clearance off the line.

Azpilicueta denied Leroy Sane after the German had collected Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick and fired past keeper Courtois.

Earlier, Sane dragged an effort wide, Sergio Aguero’s shot was blocked after Cesc Fabregas had given the ball away, and Bernardo Silva sent a shot just over.

Chelsea, without the ill N’Golo Kante, were poor throughout but had a great chance to equalise when Victor Moses sliced horribly wide after being put through by Fabregas.

Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Moses, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Alonso; Willian (Giroud 79), Hazard (Morata 89), Pedro (Emerson 82).
Subs not used: Caballero, Cahill, Zappacosta, Chalobah.
