Chelsea beaten by Japanese side in friendly

Christian Pulisic made his Chelsea debut as the Blues were beaten 1-0 by Kawasaki Frontale in a pre-season friendly in Japan.

Pulisic was brought on midway through the second half in Yokohama, where Damião headed in an 88th-minute winner for the Japanese side – shortly after hitting the bar.

On a more positive note for new boss Frank Lampard, there was a first chance to assess Pulisic and lively performances from Mason Mount, Kenedy and Ross Barkley while they were on the pitch.

Chelsea dominated possession without managing to score. Mount, Pedro and Michy Batshuayi all went close.

Lampard’s side will be in action in Japan again on Tuesday, against Barcelona.

Chelsea: Caballero, Azpilicueta (Zappacosta 45), Luiz, Zouma (Christensen 45), Alonso (Emerson 45), Kovacic (Bakayoko 58), Jorginho (Drinkwater 58), Mount (Pulisic 65), Kenedy (Palmer 71), Pedro (Barkley 45), Batshuayi (Giroud 45).
