Boss hails Chelsea fans after ‘amazing’ show of support

Jose Mourinho described the backing he received from Chelsea fans as “amazing” after the Champions League win against Dynamo Kiev.

Amid speculation over his future following a run of poor results, the Stamford Bridge crowd chanted Mourinho’s name throughout the game in a defiant show of support for the manager.

“Today they said ‘We want you here’ and probably to you (the media) ‘We want him, let him work’,” Mourinho said after the 2-1 victory.

“The players showed they wanted to win and the fans showed again their passion for the club. It was amazing really.

“I think the club has to be very proud of their fans. I don’t have another way to thank them other than to give all I have, which I have always done.”

Willian netted a brilliant late winner for the Blues

Chelsea’s misery looked like continuing after Dynamo Kiev netted a 76th-minute equaliser.

But Willian restored the lead with a glorious free-kick to give Mourinho’s side only their second win in nine matches and take them a step closer to the knockout stage.

“To qualify we didn’t need to win, so it was not a drama,” Mourinho said.

“But from a mental point of view it was important – a reaction to a negative moment.

“In other matches we have played well but when the negative moment arrives the team feel it too much and it was difficult to emerge in the game again and have control.

“Today, that was perfect. We conceded a goal and the team emerged.”
