Hiddink plays down chances of late Chelsea surge

Guus Hiddink played down Chelsea’s chances of making a late charge towards the top four after they rescued a point against Manchester United.

Diego Costa’s injury-time equaliser preserved the Blues’ unbeaten record under Hiddink – but they have drawn six of their eight league matches since the Dutchman took charge.

“Of course we are unbeaten, but if you want to get to fourth place you must have your victories,” said Hiddink.

“Mathematically it may be possible, but we need to start winning. We have had too many draws.”

Their latest draw left them 13th in the Premier League table – 17 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

And Hiddink was unhappy with their defending in the build-up to the goal that put United ahead at Stamford Bridge, although he described Jesse Lingard’s finish as “beautiful”.

“It was still without resistance on our part and that’s what we have to improve,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fear an injury Kurt Zouma suffered during the match could sideline the defender for some time.
