Bamford agrees new deal and Palace loan

Highly-rated Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has signed a new three-year deal with the club but will spend next season on loan at Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

The England Under-21 international is yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues but scored 17 times in the Championship during a loan spell at Middlesbrough last season.

He had previously spent time in League One with MK Dons and in the Championship with Derby County.

A number of clubs had been linked with the 21-year-old, including Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Norwich and West Brom.

Bamford said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with Chelsea.

“My dream has always been to be part of this club for the long term.

“Chelsea have been fantastic with my development and joining Crystal Palace for this season on loan is the next step for me in my career.”

Bamford, who missed the European Under-21 Championship this summer with injury, joined the Blues from Nottingham Forest for £1.5m in January 2012.
