Transfer gossip: Telegraph claim Tuchel faces fight to keep Kante

Some of the recent transfer speculation involving Chelsea…

New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could face a fight to keep N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge, it is claimed.

The Daily Telegraph claim Chelsea fear Kante is becoming unsettled at the club.

The newspaper say Tuchel “must convince N’Golo Kante his future remains at Chelsea” and that this “presents one of the most pressing immediate challenges for the club’s new head coach.”

No Lampard, no Rice – reports

A number of newspapers are suggesting that Frank Lampard’s sacking could end any prospect of Chelsea signing Declan Rice.

Lampard, who was replaced by Tuchel this week, was said to be keen to sign Rice from West Ham.

His departure has inevitably led to reports that Rice’s chances of a move to the Bridge might now have ended.

Chelsea ‘make contact with Upamecano’

Chelsea continue to be linked with RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The Daily Mirror have picked up on reports in Germany that Chelsea have now been in contact with Upamecano, who has been touted for a move to the Premier League for some time.

Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with the France international. United were recently widely tipped to sign him for £55m.

Speculation over Gilmour

Billy Gilmour continues to be linked with a possible loan move from Chelsea.

The young midfielder impressed once again in the FA Cup win over Luton on Sunday.

Lampard suggested prior to being sacked that a loan move for Gilmour was unlikely – but he did not entirely rule it out.

That has been picked up by the Daily Mail, which therefore reports that Gilmour could yet be loaned out during the final stages of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph say a number of Premier League are interested in him.

Lampard said after Sunday’s game: “He was outstanding. His comfort on the ball, the way he moves it, his discipline and his personality was great.

“He was outstanding. His comfort on the ball, the way he moves it, his discipline and his personality was great.“Playing like he did today, he makes it very difficult for me not to give him a run.

“With his youth and the injury he’s had, and the difficult time we’ve had in the last month or so, I think it’s been me trying to find the right time to get Billy in there. Today it felt like the right time.

“Looking at him there today, then he won’t be going on loan.

“Of course I’ll keep that slightly open until the end of the month, but Billy’s a Chelsea player and the levels he showed today show he’s right for being a Chelsea player in the middle of the park.”

Chelsea reject Hammers’ approach for Emerson – Mirror

Chelsea have rejected an approach from West Ham to take Emerson Palmieri on loan, according to the Mirror.

The Hammers are looking to bring in a left-back before the transfer window closes as they are currently without the injured Arthur Masuaku.

The Mirror say West Ham boss David Moyes saw Emerson as a good stop-gap but that Chelsea were unwilling to let him go because they need him as cover for Ben Chilwell.
