Chelsea beaten at home by Newcastle
Chelsea 0
Newcastle 1
Gordon (18′)
Chelsea ended a disappointing week with a defeat at Stamford Bridge, where they produced a frustrating performance.
Anthony Gordon’s first-half goal was enough to give Newcastle the points.
A pass by former Chelsea man Tino Livramento carved open the home defence and sent through Joe Willock, who teed up Gordon for a simple tap-in.
After their 5-2 defeat against Paris St-Germain in the Champions League in midweek, this was another blow for the Blues.
It meant they stayed fifth in the Premier League table, still three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
Liam Delap, sent on at half-time, missed an opportunity to equalise when he blasted over after being set up by Marc Cucurella.
And in stoppage time, Chelsea captain Reece James hit the post with a free-kick.
Chelsea: Sanchez, Gusto (Delap 46) Fofana (Hato 82), Chalobah, Cucurella, James, Caicedo (Lavia 61), Palmer, Fernandez, Garnacho, Joao Pedro.
Subs not used: Sharman-Lowe, Badiashille, Sarr, Tosin, Andrey Santos, Guiu.
