Chelsea confirm Abramovich meeting

Villas-Boas was barracked by Chelsea fans at Everton on Saturday.

Chelsea have confirmed that owner Roman Abramovich held a meeting with manager Andre Villas-Boas and his players on Sunday.

The squad’s scheduled day off was cancelled after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton and they were instead told to report to the club’s Cobham training ground the following day.

Abramovich’s recent visits to the Surrey training facility have increased speculation that Villas-Boas’ position is under threat.

The Portuguese has acknowledged that he is likely to lose his job if the Blues fail to achieve Champions League qualification this season.

They dropped out of the top four after the dismal display at Everton, which Villas-Boas described as their worst of the campaign.

He has accepted responsibility for the result and faces an important period, with Chelsea playing Birmingham in the FA Cup this weekend and Napoli in the Champions League next week.

Villas-Boas said: “I have to take all responsibility. I will reflect hard on my preparation of the [Everton] game and the things that I did to try to win the game.”
