Lampard frustrated but praises Gilmour

Frank Lampard praised Billy Gilmour after the young midfielder impressed after coming on during Chelsea’s FA Cup win at Hull.

Another youngster, Tariq Lamptey, was also brought on in the final stages at the KCOM Stadium, where the visitors won 2-1.

Blues boss Lampard said: “I trust them and I thought Billy Gilmour was the best player on the pitch for the period of time he was on.

“I absolutely trust in him. He came on, he passed it and moved it, he played the simple ball, passed through the lines, had little bits of contact – so I trust him to come on and do the job.”

Lampard was less pleased with Chelsea’s inability – once again – to capitalise on the amount of possession they had.

He is keen to bring in a forward ahead of the transfer deadline to address a lack of a cutting edge which has been evident all season.

“If you don’t take your chances then it can remain tough until the 94th minute, which it did,” Lampard said.
