Bne Chilwell of Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel is optimistic that Ben Chilwell will return for Chelsea from a knee injury sooner rather than later.

The England left-back has been out since suffering what Blues boss Tuchel described as a “partial injury” of his anterior cruciate ligament during the Champions League thrashing of Juventus three weeks ago.

Tuchel explained at the time that Chilwell would be assessed after six weeks and would either be fit to return or would require surgery, which would rule him out for several months.

The German also suggested that Chilwell’s positive response to initial treatment indicated that he might well avoid the long spell on the sidelines.

And halfway through that six-week period, the signs still appear to be good.

Chilwell has even resumed light training.

Tuchel explained: “He is in a good place mentally and physically. He did some running.

“Everything looks good, so hopes are still up. But we cannot confirm it.”
