James joins Wigan after signing new Chelsea deal

Youngster Reece James has joined Wigan on a season-long loan after signing a new long-term contract with Chelsea.

The 18-year-old defender has played a key role in Chelsea’s FA Youth Cup-winning sides of the last two years.

Chelsea are keen for him to pick up first-team experience and he will therefore spend the forthcoming season with the Latics, who were recently promoted to the Championship.

Blues youngsters Trevoh Chalobah and Dujon Sterling also made loan moves this week, to Ipswich and Coventry respectively.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer is wanted by Norwich City.
