Gray hopes to emulate former Bees star

Andre Gray hopes he can have the same impact at Brentford as fellow former non-League striker DJ Campbell.

Gray, 23, scored 30 times in 44 Conference Premier matches last year as Luton Town won promotion back to the Football League.

And the England C forward would like to have a similar career to Campbell, who moved to Brentford in 2005 from non-League Yeading and went on to play in the Premier League.

Campbell scored 12 goals from 18 starts in six months for the Bees and earned moves to Birmingham City and then Leicester City and QPR.

“DJ Campbell is someone I’ve always looked up to and wanted to emulate,” said Gray.

“He’s had a great career, coming out of non-League and doing well. I’d love to be able to come here and do the same.

“I know I’ve made a big jump but other lads have done it – the likes of Jamie Vardy and Dwight Gale recently.

“I don’t want to get ahead of myself though. First and foremost I need to be playing regularly. But if I am hopefully I can do well and score some goals.”
