City’s Khusanov should have been sent off, Andrews insists
Keith Andrews insisted Abdukodir Khusanov should have been sent off during Brentford’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Manchester City.
Andrews’ side were beaten 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, where Rayan Cherki put the hosts ahead after City’s Khusanov stayed on the pitch despite a foul on Kevin Schade, who would have been through on goal.
Bees head coach Andrews said: “I’m generally very quick to defend officials – it’s such a difficult job – but that was one they didn’t get right.
“The explanation – that the touch being too far away from goal – doesn’t quite sit well with me after watching it back, because he’s clean through on goal.
“If it’s a red card it’s a big advantage for us, but we’ll never know.”
City were strong favourites and worthy winners, but Brentford battled hard and Andrews was pleased with their efforts.
“We showed a lot of courage, conviction and bravery in how we played,” he said.
