Brentford sign Everton teenager Long

Brentford have signed 19-year-old striker Chris Long on a month’s loan from Everton.

Long joins the Bees a month after making his Toffees debut as a late substitute in a Europa League game with FK Krasnodar.

Last season, he scored once in four appearances in League One while on loan at MK Dons.

Long has represented England at every level from Under-16 to Under-20, playing in two matches at the Under-20 World Cup in 2013.

He will be available for Brentford’s Championship game at Norwich on Saturday.

Bees boss Mark Warburton said: “We have tracked Chris’ progress from a young age.

“We are aware of his talent and we are looking forward to seeing how he benefits from the loan move and how he impacts the team’s performance.

“Chris is a young boy with enormous potential who will add value to the group over the coming weeks.”

Long is Brentford’s second signing in the January transfer window, after the capture of Lewis MacLeod from Rangers.

He is the fourth loanee on the Bees’ books, alongside Tottenham’s Alex Pritchard, Arsenal’s Jon Toral and Sporting Lisbon striker Betinho.
