Bees were punished for missing chances – Frank

Sheff Wed 2 Brentford 1

Two goals in the space of four second-half minutes by Steven Fletcher condemned Brentford to defeat at Hillsborough.

Bryan Mbeumo gave the visitors a first-half lead by glancing home Josh Dasilva’s corner.

A win would have put Brentford into the play-off places but instead it was Sheffield Wednesday who climbed into the top six.

Fletcher fired in a penalty after Rico Henry’s handball and then got the better of Ethan Pinnock to score after being set up by Kareem Harris’ cross.

It was a bitter blow for Brentford, who paid the price for missing chances.

“Maybe we should have taken one of our chances to make it 2-0 because we know anything can happen in this league,” Bees boss Thomas Frank admitted.

“We lacked the quality and decision-making and the extra good touch or a pass to make it 2-0.”
