Middlesex struggle against Fell-inspired Worcestershire

Middlesex struggled to make inroads against a Tom Fell-inspired Worcestershire on a dismal second day and face a huge challenge to finish in second place in the Division One table.

Needing just 12 points from the final game of the season to ensure they stay above Nottinghamshire and remain as runners-up, Middlesex were skittled out for 98 on day one.

And they fared just as badly with the ball, with Fell smashing an unbeaten 167 in his side’s total of 329-3 when play ended early because of bad light.

Resuming on 79-1 already-relegated Worcestershire soon lost Brett D’Oliveira, who was caught by James Franklin off the bowling of Neil Dexter.

But that was about as good as the day got for the hosts, Fell bludgeoning the bowling to all parts, with 25 fours and one six in his impressive knock.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore added a more watchful unbeaten 97 while Tim Murtagh was the Middlesex bowler who suffered most, going for 104 runs off his 25 overs before play was suspended.
