Home form key to survival bid – Magath

Manager Felix Magath remains bullish about Fulham’s Premier League survival hopes despite defeat at fellow strugglers Cardiff.

A brace from Steven Caulker and a Sascha Riether own goal condemned the Whites to a 3-1 loss – a seventh defeat in their last nine games – and keeps them at the foot of the table.

But Magath, whose side are four points adrift of safety, insisted there was still plenty of time to rescue their perilous position and has targeted an improvement at Craven Cottage to spark a revival.

He said: “We have got nine games and 27 points to play for, which is a lot.

“We have to win our home games like Cardiff have done today.

“The only thing that can help us is a win next week against Newcastle.”

Magath said his primary focus would be on improving his side’s dire defensive record, having now conceded 65 goals in 29 league games.

He added: “We will work on defending better.

“It was not too good today but for us, [it’s] always a problem [when we concede goals].

“Until the goal we played OK but one goal and the confidence is over.”
