Brentford battled to a draw at Anfield but missed out on Europe on goal difference.

Keane Lewis-Potter’s equaliser after Curtis Jones’ opener earned the Bees a point, but they finished an excellent season ninth in the Premier League table and were just pipped to a Uefa Conference League place by Brighton.

Mohamed Salah, playing in his final match for Liverpool, hit the post with a first-half free-kick, before Cody Gakpo missed a chance for the home side and Schade was denied by keeper Alisson.

Salah created the opening goal, setting up Jones for a simple tap-in.

Brentford hit back when Lewis-Potter’s deflected cross from the left was met by Schade’s diving header.

And Dango Ouattara missed a great chance to secure that European place when he headed Vitaly Janelt’s cross wide of the target.
