Chelsea beaten by Man City in cup final
Chelsea 0
Man City 1
Semenyo (72′)
Antoine Semenyo’s second-half goal won the FA Cup for Manchester City at Wembley.
In a final of few clear-cut chances, an incisive City move culminated in Erling Haaland finding space on the right and pulling the ball back for Semenyo, whose clever back-flick beat keeper Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea almost levelled when Enzo Fernandez nudged the ball onto the top of the net after a throw-in had been headed on by Levi Colwill.
And they had appeals for a penalty waved away when Jorrel Hato went down under a challenge from Abdukodir Khusanov.
At the other end, as City threatened to score a second, Matheus Nunes’ low cross hit the post after deflecting off Hato, and Sanchez pushed away a strike from Rayan Cherki.
It was a frustrating day for Chelsea, who held their own against their title-chasing opponents but lacked quality in the final third – which was underlined when Malo Gusto’s stoppage-time cross was headed wide by substitute Liam Delap.
Chelsea: Sanchez, Fofana, Colwill, Hato, Gusto, James (Delap 82), Caicedo, Cucurella (Neto 74), Palmer, Fernandez, Joao Pedro (Garnacho 86)
