Joao Pedro faces fitness test ahead of Brighton game

Chelsea will make a late decision on the fitness of Joao Pedro ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Brighton, while Estevao Willian has been ruled out of the game.

The Blues’ medical team are continuing to monitor Joao Pedro after the striker missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester United with a thigh complaint.

The 24-year-old returned to light training on Monday, but a final assessment will be made on the morning of the game against his former club.

Estevao is confirmed to be unavailable after suffering a hamstring injury during the first half of the weekend’s match. The Brazilian winger pulled up while through on goal and is currently undergoing further tests to determine the length of his absence.

Enzo Fernandez is available for selection after recovering from the cramp that forced him off late on Saturday.

“Joao will be a late call,” said Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior.

“He was out on the (training) pitch today. We’ll make a decision on him tomorrow morning. That’s positive, because he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

“Estee is definitely out for tomorrow, which is a real shame. We’re doing further tests and investigation into his injury. Enzo is absolutely fine.”

Meanwhile, Rosenior has insisted he feels “100%” support from Chelsea’s owners despite the team’s poor run.
