Fulham beaten by Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool 2
Ngumoha (36′)
Salah (40′)
Fulham 0

Goals from Rio Ngumoha and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool victory over Fulham at Anfield.

Having defended well in the opening stages, Fulham began to assert themselves and Harry Wilson went close to giving them the lead, shooting narrowly over, only for them to concede two goals in the space of four minutes late in the first half.

Youngster Ngumoha tricked Timothy Castagne near the left-hand edge of the penalty area and curled a glorious shot beyond keeper Bernd Leno and in off the far post.

Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead with a thumping left-footed strike from the opposite side of the box, which also went in off the post.

Fulham boss Marco Silva made a double substitution at the interval, sending Emile Smith Rowe and Sasa Lukic on in place of Josh King and Oscar Bobb.

The visitors did threaten at times in the second half but were unable to find a goal to haul themselves back into the game – Smith Rowe missed a great chance when he fired wide after being set up by Ryan Sessegnon, who also came off the bench.

Another substitute, Raul Jimenez, went close to pulling a goal back when he too shot wide.

The result left Silva’s side 11th in the Premier League table and put fifth-placed Liverpool four points clear of Chelsea, who play Manchester City on Sunday, and five clear of Brentford.

Fulham: Leno, Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson (Sessegnon 69), Berge, Iwobi, Wilson (Chukwueze 80), King (Lukic 46), Bobb (Smith Rowe 46), Muniz (Jimenez 80).
Subs not used: Lecomte, Diop, Cuenca, Cairney.
