West London Eagles reach handball’s National Cup final

In a thrilling and hard-fought contest, the West London Eagles Women secured their place in the England Handball National Cup final with an emphatic 31–21 victory over Northampton.

The win also extended the Eagles’ remarkable unbeaten run this season.

After 15 minutes the score was level at 6-6, but then Eagles geared up with more effective attacks and built up a comfortable lead at 15-10 at half-time.

Leading from the front was Dera, whose outstanding performance earned her Player of the Match honours and helped drive the team through a fast-paced, physical encounter, even when influential playmakers Lydia and Alex were guarded.

The second half saw the Eagles cruise to victory with a contribution from all players from the squad, including the young players Nelly and Julia.

Head coach Kiki Littman said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team. The focus and resilience they showed in such a tough, fast, and physical game was outstanding.

“This is a big milestone for us but by no means the finish line. We’re evolving every game and pushing for even more.

“Our strength comes from how we show up for each other and after so much work we put in as a team over the last 18 months. It’s fantastic to see that our teamwork is what’s driving so much of our performance now.”

The Eagles are already crowned champions of the Premier Handball League South ,with the England Final 4 with the top two teams from the north still to come. The team is heading into an exciting end of season with everything to play for.

And it’s not just the senior squad making waves. Across the club, success continues to build.

On Saturday the Under-14 boys remained undefeated after nine games this season, and the Under-14 girls secured a fantastic second place in the England South East league.

The club also hosted a vibrant Under-12 friendly tournament in Gunnersbury, showcasing the next generation of talents.

From grassroots to top level, the West London Eagles are proving that handball in England is well alive and full of promise.
