Obikwu ‘an option’ for QPR against Portsmouth
Justin Obikwu is “an option” for QPR against Portsmouth, Julian Stephan says.
The striker was signed from Coventry in January after top scorer Rumarn Burrell was sidelined, but Obikwu picked up a shin injury soon after his move and has not yet featured for the R’s.
But he has been involved in training and this week and could be among the substitutes at Loftus Road on Saturday.
“He trained this week and will train on Friday,” head coach Stephan said.
“We need to continue to rebuild him physically because he has not played for a long time.
“But it’s an option for me to involve him in the 20 players. He’s not ready to start the game, but perhaps ready to play some minutes if we need him.
“We will continue after the international break and the next weeks to rebuild him physically. But it’s an option, yes, for the next game.”
Rangers are still without the likes of Burrell, Nicolas Madsen, Ilias Chair and Steve Cook.
