Chelsea sign youngster Alao from Sheffield Wednesday

Chelsea have signed teenage left-back Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 17-year-old has been watched by several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, but has opted for a move to Stamford Bridge.

He has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues. The transfer fee is undisclosed.

Alao made his senior debut in August and has made five first-team appearances for the Owls.

He featured in their recent FA Cup tie against Brentford. 

Troubled Championship strugglers Wednesday are currently run by administrators, who said: “The transfer includes a substantial upfront payment, along with further protections to ensure the club benefits should Yisa go on to fulfil the potential he has shown.

“These include performance-related payments and a significant sell-on arrangement.”
