Chelsea beaten by Arsenal in major blow to WSL title hopes
Chelsea’s hopes of retaining their Women’s Super League title suffered a major blow as Arsenal beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
The defeat leaves Chelsea six points behind leaders Manchester City, having played a game more, and now just a point ahead of Arsenal.
The visitors scored twice in the space of six minutes early in the second half, with Beth Mead opening the scoring and Mariona Caldentey netting the second.
Mead applied the finish after being played in by Alessia Russo, and then set up Caldentey for the second.
Erin Cuthbert and Sjoeke Nusken both missed chances to pull a goal back.
