Chelsea Owners Snap Up Promising Burkina Faso Star

When it comes to Premier League teams that need to strengthen their squads, Chelsea would not be at the top of the list. However, the most recent potential acquisition of Mohamed Zongo has been made by the owners of Chelsea, BlueCo, with the player set to move to Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, which has the potential for a move to Chelsea should he fulfil his potential.
Chelsea are not considered serious title contenders at present, with some of the top betting sites UK consumers can access pricing them at 50/1. But their current is showing great signs of potential.
So far this season, of the 25 players used, Chelsea has the league’s lowest average age of 23.3, more than a year younger than second-placed Tottenham Hotspur, which has an average age of 24.7 among the 20 players to feature.
The club has moved quickly to secure the signing of Zongo amidst interest from other top European teams.
Who is Mohamed Zongo?
Mohamed Zongo drew attention from the world of football after impressive performances in midfield for Burkina Faso in the Under-17 World Cup. Comparisons to current Chelsea star Moises Caicedo followed, and he was immediately linked to a host of top clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United.
The 16-year-old star is set to move to Strasbourg from the Tenakourou Academy, where he has been getting rave reviews for a few years now. Having turned 16 in November, Zongo’s call-up came when he was just 15.
He won’t join Strasbourg until he turns 18 in 2027, underlining Chelsea and their management’s long-term focus on attracting the top young stars and their patience in developing talent.
Chelsea’s Recent History of Snapping Up Young Talent
While Chelsea’s current squad is maybe a season or two away from being one of the country’s top title contenders, the team is always on the lookout for new talent, with deals already in place for Deinner Ordonez, Denner Evangelista, Dastan Satpayev, Geovany Quenda, and Angelo Candido.
Another exciting talent to recently join the club is the 18-year-old Estevao, who joined from Palmeiras in the Summer for a fee of around £30 million. The young Brazilian impressed at Palmeiras, playing 83 times, scoring 27 goals, and getting 15 assists before turning 18.
He already has 5 goals for Chelsea in 20 games, with 3 coming from 5 Champions League appearances. He has also made a strong impression on the international stage, scoring 5 goals for Brazil in 11 games.
The fact that established Chelsea stars like Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and Enzo Fernandez are just 24, 23, and 24, respectively, indicates the potential that the current team has. As these players mature and peak, the club will be able to compete domestically and in Europe, and if any team comes in for them, they will command huge transfer fees.
While the current squad is still young, the club already appears to have the next generation waiting in the wings, who will be introduced slowly to the squad as they develop, and Zongo could be a key part of that.
