Brentford draw with Spurs on Frank’s return

Brentford took a point in a controversial draw with Tottenham in Thomas Frank’s return.

In Spurs’ first visit to Brentford since Frank left his job as Bees boss to take over at the north London club during the summer, the visitors seemed fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men 11 minutes into the second half.

Cristian Romero brought down Igor Thiago, who would have been through on goal, but he escaped a red card – much to the anger of the home fans.

It was a dull game of few openings, doing little to ease the pressure on Frank, who has been under fire from frustrated Spurs fans.

Kevin Schade, who scored a hat-trick against Bournemouth on Saturday, thought he had opened the scoring for Brentford in the fifth minute, but his tap-in was ruled out for offside.

Keane Lewis-Potter, Thiago and Vitaly Janelt all had chances for Brentford, who put their opponents under pressure in the second half.

Frank was jeered by the visiting supporters before and after the final whistle, whereas Bees fans gave him a warm welcome back to the club where he enjoyed huge success.
