‘Growing’ Brentford deserved more – Frank

Brentford boss Thomas Frank feels his team have been short-changed by a return of six points from their last four games.

The Bees, who had previously lost eight games out of 10 under Frank, went unbeaten over the Christmas and New Year period, beating Bolton and sharing the points against Bristol City, Birmingham and Norwich.

Frank, who succeeded Dean Smith in October, said: “The team are growing and it’s pleasing with the unbeaten run over Christmas.

“I think we deserved more than six points if you look at the games. I don’t think we had the small margins.

“But I look at the performance and mindset and they’ve been bang on from the players. We also changed the system and I think that helped us but, if the mindset is not bang on, it doesn’t matter.

“We’ve been working massively on mindset, attitude and work-rate. When everything is going well, sometimes you can forget that second part of the game.”

Brentford led for the majority of Tuesday’s home game against Norwich, with Julian Jeanvier heading them in front from Said Benrahma’s corner midway through the first half.

But Canaries defender Timm Klose denied them a second successive home win, nodding in a scrappy equaliser with seven minutes remaining to salvage a point.

Frank was full of praise for Jeanvier, who joined the Bees from Reims last summer and caught the eye in their three-man defence – as well as scoring his first Championship goal.

The Dane added: “He did brilliantly – every game he’s playing is better and better but look at that personality.

“He’s a beast in there and, as well as the steel, the way he addresses messages to the younger players is spot on. A lot of players have been stepping up, everybody’s working unbelievably hard.”
