Wenger insists cup win won’t affect his future
Arsene Wenger dismissed suggestions his team’s FA Cup triumph over Chelsea at Wembley would be the perfect way for him to bow out as Arsenal manager.
Wenger’s future remains in doubt, with uncertainty over whether he will sign a new contract to stay at the north London club.
The Frenchman insisted the 2-1 victory over the Premier League champions would have no bearing on whether he remains.
“There’s no perfect way (to go). I just want to do well for this club and apart from that it’s down to board members,” he said.
“I’ve tried to serve this club with the same commitment. This season we had some difficult moments but I spent every day of my season with full commitment. I refused to give up and my team refused to give up.”
Asked if he was unsure whether the Arsenal hierarchy want him to continue, he replied: “I don’t think I can answer that. We’ll see what happens. We are adults and have to accept what happens.”
Aaron Ramsey’s winner meant Arsenal ended a troubled season with a trophy.
And Wenger paid tribute to his players, saying: “I’m very proud. I’m especially proud of the way we won this FA Cup.
“We had to play Manchester City here then Chelsea here – you cannot get tougher and we had two outstanding performances. This cup was won with a special spirit.
“Nobody have us a chance and we responded with attitude and class.”
