Half-time: Chelsea 1 West Ham 1

Fabregas' performances have improved in recent weeks

Cesc Fabregas’ free-kick deep into added-on time at the end of the first half pulled Chelsea level, cancelling out Manuel Lanzini’s sublime opener.

Lanzini had given West Ham a 17th minute lead when he picked up a loose ball 20 yards out and curled a brilliant right-footed shot beyond Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Earlier, Chelsea had the first chance when Loic Remy – in for the suspended Diego Costa – was played in by Cesc Fabregas but he blasted a shot at the legs of Adrian.

Shortly after the goal, Branislav Ivanovic’s header and Kenedy’s shot were both well off target, while Remy’s flicked header was comfortably gathered by the Hammers keeper.

Chelsea also wanted a penalty when Michail Antonio controlled the ball inside the Hammers box, but replays showed the ball hit more of his shoulder than his arm.

West Ham looked dangerous whenever they came forward and came close to a second after a slick move saw the ball worked out to Aaron Cresswell, whose drilled shot took a slight deflection off Ivanovic on its way across the face of goal.

Chelsea moved up through the gears late in the half, and Willian curled a free-kick narrowly wide of the near post but Fabregas showed him how it should be done with an expert finish from 20 yards.
