Round-up: Blues linked with Mings, QPR trialist, Old Oak latest, Groves, DeGale

QPR say their plans for a new stadium at Old Oak have won significant support from local people.

Rangers say the consultation on their proposed regeneration of the area was backed by a large majority of those whose views they canvassed.

But Cargiant, who currently own 47 acres of the site in question, insist they are pressing ahead with what the company say will be “firm and compelling” alternative plans for the area.

On the pitch, Harry Redknapp says Adel Taarabt is still some way from fitness.

The Rangers boss also says he is unsure when Alejandro Faurlin might be able to return to action and has denied reports that while Tottenham manager he considered selling Gareth Bale.

Redknapp is also taking a look at Argentine defender Pablo Alvarez, who has been training with the R’s.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been at the centre of more transfer speculation. It has been claimed that Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings has been identified as a possible long-term replacement for Blues skipper John Terry.

Fulham defender Dan Burn has also been the subject of recent speculation, but Kit Symons has insisted that the 22-year-old is not for sale.

Whites boss Symons has also said he is looking to add to his squad before the loan window closes and is relishing the prospect of a west London derby against Brentford on Friday evening.

In boxing, local rivals George Groves and James DeGale are both preparing to fight at Liverpool’s Echo Arena this weekend.

A win for Groves against American Denis Douglin would keep him in line for another world title shot the Hammersmith man hopes will be in London.

DeGale, also in the frame for a world title challenge, has claimed that Groves should be “grateful” to him for the exposure he has been given by their rivalry.

And Rajiv Ouseph is out of the Hong Kong Open despite the Hounslow badminton star giving top seed Chen Long a scare.
