Petr Cech believes his protective headgear saved him and Chelsea team-mate Kurt Zouma from serious injury during the Capital One Cup win at Derby.

Zouma was stretchered off after the pair collided but has been given the all-clear – and goalkeeper Cech thinks the helmet he wears made all the difference when they clashed heads.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho praised the players for their display against the Rams, saying it showed that a winning mentality is in the team’s DNA.

Chelsea were also praised by Derby manager Steve McClaren.
